EERA – Reflection of Youth

EERA is a Norwegian artist with a penchant for dark synths and rocky guitars. Anna Lena Bruland’s music is seductive and moody at the same time as being vulnerable and raw. There’s flashes of Sharon van Etten and PJ Harvey coming through in the compulsive nature of the melodies and urgency with which she sings. Latest tune I Wanna Dance is a rocking and deliciously sinister tune, where as Living is a simmering sonic articulation of bewilderment on life. Christine and 10,000 Voices sees a stripped back approach taken, the fingers on guitar strings being amped up as Bruland speaks to women in her life. Beast starts out with bold beats, soon beguilingly undone by sweet vocals, whilst Wise Man shimmers and simmers with synths. There’s a real mix of brash tunes and introspective tracks on her debut album, Reflection Of Youth, is out 3rd Nov via Big Dada. which is about finding purpose from confusion and strength in your weaknesses, and living in a society where you’re meant to have figured everything out.
