Since forming Land of Talk in 2008, Elizabeth Powell has faced some issues. Whether its losing her voice, band members, confidence, father’s illness, or just life, she and her band have been on a journey. As a result the musical output has veered direction – as Inner Lover shows. Gently and enigmatically, there’s been a move from brash indie to simmering and elusive, genre twisting songs. On Inner Lover instruments contort and melodies bend over quivering chords. Influenced by classical, ambient, and Japanese tonkori music, which has a meditative quality that aided Elizabeth through the battles. New album Life After Youth will be out on May 19th.
